    No man knows the day or the hour, but I’m pretty sure that a Dominican saying “Just go with it” with regard to matters Scriptural is one of the signs and portents that Our Lord spoke of with regard to the Apocalypse.

      Sed contra, the Apostle says, ‘Everything in the scripture has been divinely inspired’ — that is, inspired by God; and further, ‘Abraham put his faith in God, and it was reckoned virtue in him.’

      Respondeo: One cannot learn from that which has not first become an object of the intellect. Faithful docility ‘with regard to matters Scriptural’ is the first step toward contemplation of Divine truth for Dominicans. It might as well be the first and the last step for the rest of you.

    These look like village or near the village people. Does that mean they’re the contributors or someone has them in mind. Were my teeth broken because they thought I was taking the piss, and did someone have that in mind?

    I didn’t think this until I had encountered them via the dentist. My life has been hold – not that it is not to a certain extent in the last thrir of it – because of the most barbarous dental treatment imaginable. When I went back to tell him he was evil, the police were called. I had been asked to leave but he had offered no solution. Basically I had had chipped or unfilled teeth after fillings had fallen out after two decades at Park Avenue North in Willesden, London, particularly after Neil Myers had filled the two front ones. However, one in Kingsury, Kave Turmeh Baf Shirazi, then finally filled two other front ones that had chipped as a result of a domino effect and in less than a month, while on holiday in the US intending to find work, both visible teeth were missing in their entirety. The most destructive thing that happened to me, and I’d survived a barbarous hysterectomy. Other neglected ones I’ve lost since, one on a ball bearing type thing found in re-heated barley (ie, I don’t know if it was in the packet or added). Likewise I found a piece of flint in some opened apricot jam but saw that in time.

    One neighbour called through the letterbox ‘missing teeth’, but really apart from a couple of the young people they’re a pretty dreary bunch themselves. The last dentist said he would only fill a tooth – now half missing although I have patched it with online amalgam, the second time purchased in Kave’s favoured shade of brown – if I had the stumps removed first, but they’re hardly visible and I was afraid of my face caving in and receding further because of receding gums and blood loss.

    I had one colleague who became slightly hysterical at the idea I might be able to work in the US – I’m a dual national – so I don’t know if there’s an element of that since I had discussed my hopes with the dentist. I had noticed a book called ‘Imperial Hubris’ on a bookshelf at the dentist’s.

    I don’t remember writing these comments so recently and being so rude. Sorry. I am under quite tremendous pressure. Like when you go to a hotel and they expect you won’t last the night and the cars outside – cartel – try to make the end exciting for you but I’ve had it for 6 years and also in the US although not quite so intensely, although there still seems to be a troupe. I live on a lane that is not an obvious route between a and b on the outskirts of London and the cars race by aggressively and apparently intuitively, for instance if you forget 2 and 2 equals 4. And there are planes above. It is presumably how they assassinate people ‘legally’. And a lot of my food is very oversalted and I am often gassed/pressured in public places, but I assume I am not the only victim of these. I once had a boyfriend who came to London with me and he would say about the crowds, “I can’t live, it’s so exciting”, and now I assume it was happening then, as well, although I didn’t notice it.

    There may be those who think with the middlebrow, even highbrow, audience I must have been having the time of my life. I did enjoy my trips abroad to the US in recent years even if I would have enjoyed them more if not surrounded, although I regret now not having visited the south, although the last time I thought it was not an option probably because of the danger, by trains and with a reduced appetite.

    I am planning to visit the US probably again this summer or autumn but haven’t decided for how long or whether i should in the great plan of my life visit somewhere in Europe first. I get a pension lump sum – I’ve also been kindly helped by my sister – but don’t want to pay large credit card repayments until closer to August.

    Might seem like I was stalking your website but although I used to read it a lot after being sent a link between 2008 and 2012 I have mosstly forgotten to since then or been too tired. However I sometimes do this with emails. It might seem like I’m stalking the person if I send five emails at a time but it’s maybe like a two-five minute conversation including the second thoughts. But odd that since I’ve been on it so little I should be reminded of having sent so many comments on this post in 2018 in 2023. I just looked in after seeing something in my updates inbox and liked seeing this familiar type photo.
