From the Armadio degli Argenti of Blessed John of Fiesole, OP (Fra Angelico), c. 1450

‘And he brought them out of darkness, and the shadow of death; and broke their bonds in sunder.’

Psalm 107: 14

  1. We would also have accepted, “And he heard my prayers, and brought me out of the pit of misery and the mire of dregs. And he set my feet upon a rock, and directed my steps.” – Psalm 40

Thanks Angelico. It good to have some genuine piety back on the blog now that C.M. has left.

  3. Theological question to you theological types, maybe even Theology Professor types: did Christ preach to souls in Abraham’s busom, so to speak, the place where the virtuous went. Or, did he preach to the lost souls in Gahenna and provide a way to salvation?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. You have probably seen this somewhere, but if you haven’t, you should read it. Really.

  5. Very powerful. That image of JPII embracing the tabernacle…goodness.

I think what she says here is really important for any Catholic writer to hear. The image above, and even moreso, Fra Angelico’s similar fresco http://www.wikipaintings.org/en/fra-angelico/christ-in-limbo-1442, is such a great image of what we can be about–the answer to that gloaming she talks about–the living out of that longing.

I like how these crop up year after year. Sort of like the Facebook memories phenomenon.
