Does Anything Rhyme with “Nobel”?

nobel-prize-medal

When I first received this Nobel Prize for Literature, I got to wondering exactly how my songs related to literature. I wanted to reflect on it and see where the connection was. I’m going to try to articulate that to you. And most likely it will go in a roundabout way, but I hope what I say will be worthwhile and purposeful.

  1. TAG WITH: well no one asked if “eternal verities” could work well in seemingly infinite paragraphs of lugubrious and prolix run-on stream of consciousness sentences which fold in on themselves as they attempt to tell the same tragicomic tale of idiots incest and idyllic reveries amid a char-burnt culture of defeat held between one’s fingertips as an abject lesson in how soaring themes and squalid characters mixed as well as brooding brows aquiline noses and a jimson weed perched between the fingers of an idiot asking if “eternal verities” could work well in seemingly infinite paragraphs of lugubrious and prolix run-on stream of consciousness which fold in on themselves as they attempt to tell the same tragicomic tale of idiots incest and idyllic reveries amid a char-burnt culture of defeat held between one’s fingertips as an abject lesson in how soaring themes and squalid characters mixed as well as brooding brows aquiline noses and a jimson weed perched between the fingers of an idiot

Like Bob Dylan said in his speech–I’m not sure what your above words mean. 🙂 But I love Bob Dylan’s speech, which I’ve never read before. It makes perfect sense to a writer like me. Words and music come from so many objects and situations, all in connection with each other. That connection with a particular breathing human life is what Art is, and what makes an artist like Bob Dylan great.

    • Kate!

So good to hear from you!

No, the above funnin’ is not a knock against Dylan winning the Nobel – just a homage to a fellow around your parts – a certain post office worker from Oxford, Miss, who managed to win the “Big One” as well…

      JOB

Well, he did write long sentences, didn’t he? Looking forward to seeing you again at Notre Dame, Joseph!

Do you know the deadline for entering each year?

Sorry about that comment. A lot of people seem to have suffered from bad dentists so I’m surprised more isn’t said explicitly about it so that others won’t make the same mistake.
