A while ago the title Amazing Grace and Zombies came to me. I was thinking that, were I to jump on the zombies bandwagon, I might use that. That’s all I got. No storyline, no characters, just the title. Then I forgot about it. Until this morning when one of the apocalyptic readings at mass presented itself as the perfect epigraph to accompany the title:
Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake;
some shall live forever,
others shall be an everlasting horror and disgrace.
I was also thinking “everlasting horror and disgrace” may be the most compelling descriptor for Hell (and, possibly, zombies) anywhere in the pages of scripture. (It’s from the 12th chapter of Daniel.) I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer to avoid that if possible.
That’s still all I got. No storyline, no characters.
P.S. Please don’t start offering ideas in the comments. If you must, you must, but please try to restrain yourselves.
Um, I’ve already done that story. It’s called Hookers in the Desert. Catholic title: Corpus Meum. You want I should send you the treatment?
(You know you want to read it, Mr Potter. Let Mr Lickona send you the treatment, there’s a good chap.)
As long as it’s written in his own blood on toilet paper.
The toilet paper keeps disintegrating!
See also.
My version features an evangelical Christian fellowship group on a secular private college campus. A time warp occurs and post-apocalyptic zombies from the fourth dimension infiltrate the ranks of the Christian student leadership group.
You weren’t kidding about not wanting suggestions in the comments.
Thanks for the link. I wrote about MEL. Hope you don’t mind. http://www.laboraeditions.com/lethal-capon/
Thanks for this, Ryan. Excellent review of Surfing with Mel! You should ask Santa for a Kindle for Christmas. It doesn’t mean you have to give up paper.
I had the same thought. God help us. From zombies.
I’m worried that maybe a zombie at our 143rd Facebook fan. We’re back down to 142.
The zombie also ate the “e” at the end of “ate” in that comment.

Won’t offer an idea, but I will offer this:

I, for one, hadn’t heard about it until yesterday.
I watched with the sound off and it made me think of Con Air for some reason, which I liked. Btw, have you seen Seeking a Friend for the End of the World? It’s good. I also recommend Wreck It Ralph.
Will check them out Mr. Potter. Sound worthwhile
Your mileage may vary.
I did just read a similar review in the latest NCR. Now it sounds like one of those movies where I’m going to instinctively not want to see it because the story will make me roll my eyes despite my love for (certain) computer games. (computer as in pc… I never played arcade games and have never owned one of the other platforms.)
The novel on which it was based is written by Mel Brooks’ son.
small world, zombies or not zombies…
JOB
Amazing Grace, how sweet the brains
That feed a wretch like me
Of my whole self, undead remains
Are all that sing to thee
sounds like it could be a line from “the reapers are the angels” (it’s not. but since someone’s written the “flannery o’connor with zombies” book, I think it only right the Korrektiv Press should release the first “walker percy with zombies” novel.)
How have I not heard of The Reapers are the Angels? Is it any good?
I read it about a summer ago. It is good. The main character is likeable, but walks the earth with some doom or fate over her head. I’d recommend it.
