Amazing Grace and Zombies

A while ago the title Amazing Grace and Zombies came to me. I was thinking that, were I to jump on the zombies bandwagon, I might use that. That’s all I got. No storyline, no characters, just the title. Then I forgot about it. Until this morning when one of the apocalyptic readings at mass presented itself as the perfect epigraph to accompany the title:

Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake;
some shall live forever,
others shall be an everlasting horror and disgrace.

I was also thinking “everlasting horror and disgrace” may be the most compelling descriptor for Hell (and, possibly, zombies) anywhere in the pages of scripture. (It’s from the 12th chapter of Daniel.) I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer to avoid that if possible.

That’s still all I got. No storyline, no characters.

P.S. Please don’t start offering ideas in the comments. If you must, you must, but please try to restrain yourselves.

  1. Um, I’ve already done that story. It’s called Hookers in the Desert. Catholic title: Corpus Meum. You want I should send you the treatment?

  2. I had the same thought. God help us. From zombies.

Won’t offer an idea, but I will offer this:

I, for one, hadn’t heard about it until yesterday.

I watched with the sound off and it made me think of Con Air for some reason, which I liked. Btw, have you seen Seeking a Friend for the End of the World? It’s good. I also recommend Wreck It Ralph.

    • The novel on which it was based is written by Mel Brooks’ son.

small world, zombies or not zombies…

      JOB

  4. Matthew Lickona says

Amazing Grace, how sweet the brains
That feed a wretch like me
Of my whole self, undead remains
Are all that sing to thee

    • sounds like it could be a line from “the reapers are the angels” (it’s not. but since someone’s written the “flannery o’connor with zombies” book, I think it only right the Korrektiv Press should release the first “walker percy with zombies” novel.)
