    Oh, those are much prettier. Did you make them from scratch? The box mix was kind of a bust, but it did have that sacramental From New Orleans air.

  3. Every time I think I might have an edge of some kind (baking, wit, dramatic flair, ennui…) another Lickona comes along to put me in my place.

    I’m sad I didn’t arrive early enough for a hot batch, but even cold they tasted top shelf.

    I’d doff my toque, had I one.

      I know what you mean. I was prepared to deal with Deirdre’s superior beignet-bility, or even Matthew’s. But this – this is the unkindest cut of all, unless he’d said that the baby made the beignets.
