    Retouching may obscure the grace.

      Indeed. But the image hanging in the shrine today is in fact retouched. As a result, Our Lady appears older and heavier than she does here.

        That’s tampering with evidence, not to mention gilding the lily (or the rose). Better submit the tilma to another scientific analysis than to a restorer’s brush.

        Whatever, not my problem. Guadalupe’s pretty good, but it’s gotten too mainstream. Lately, I’ve been more into the cult of Our Lady of La Vang.
