Golden Age of God Films?

Of Gods and Men, Warrior, The Mill and the Cross, The Way, Higher Ground…

These are interesting times.

  1. There you go. What are we complaining about?
    And there’s more:
    Tree of Life
    Get Low
    Uh…Soul Surfer?

  2. If we can have 10 books/films this year that influence the culture, and then 20 next year, and then 40…80…160…

In a generation, Christians could at least be influential again. At least enough so that Searchers could see what can be found.

  3. Who among the Kollektiv is working on the Canticle for Leibowitz screenplay?

I have it next to the bed along with all the Percy I am supposed to be reading.

    • Angelico Nguyen, Esq., OP says

‘Leibowitz’ might work well as a three-episode miniseries. I think it might lend itself especially well to hand-drawn animation, too, for some reason.

One of my atheist friends in college really admired the novel. Now I wonder what effect(s), if any, it’s had on her since.

    Seriously. No Joking. Great film.

  5. Angelico Nguyen, Esq., OPL says

Marty Scorsese is supposedly working on an adaptation of Endo’s ‘Silence’, though I don’t know if it will count as a ‘God film’. Endo stabbed at an answer, but maybe it will be enough for Marty to frame the question.

And let’s not forget the recent announcement of Mel Gibson’s long-overdue prequel to ‘Eight Crazy Nights’.

  6. Southern Expat says

In America is a Christ-haunted film, if not explicitly a “God film.”

  7. These are life affirming messages. Yesterday I learnt about ‘amor fati’, which I think roughly translates as having no regrets, of doing things ‘my way’. But I’m not good at irony. And perhaps it shows how influential he was that his message (though not his words) sound trite.
