A nod to Kierkegaard and Walker Percy: existentialist tomfoolery, political satire, literary homage, word mongering, a year-round summer reading club, Dylanesque music bits, apocalyptic marianism, poetry, fiction, meta-porn, a prisoner work-release program.

Where is this “Substitute” and how can I read it?
Ditto.
Ditto ditto.
(Keep it handy, too – for G11!)
JOB
It was the first 15 pages of a would-be novel that was aborted. It has the stale reek of something a decade old and doesn’t really have enough narrative umph to be called a short story, so I wasn’t surprised that the Percy people gave it short shrift.
You really need a PR specialist to help with your sales pitch, Potter.
Indeed. I’m rather impressed when someone becomes a semi-finalist in any given writing contest.
It was a long shot because of the lack of depth on the bench. The starting five were good, but the contenders were able to wear them down by running a full court press and using substitution.
We’d still like to read it. And how about the winners. Do any of them post here?
