Celebrity Moms, Part XXIII

Here’s the latest story about famous women doing the mom thing, joining the likes of Kate Hudson, Gwenyth Paltrow…the list of female celebrities late gone semi- or totally on mommy-leave goes on, I believe…anybody care to chip in here?

Talkin’ bout my generation. It’s a good thing, I think. For one thing, parenthood is an endless source of comic material. And maybe even other sorts of inspiration as well.

  1. Off topic, that cast is looking pretty anemic. Not that I can stay up anymore, although I might for Steve Carrell…

It could be a good thing, but on the other hand, these Celebrity Moms can easily afford to do it. Now, if she QUIT working, started breastfeeding in public, and had about 6 more? THAT would be interesting. Baby steps, I suppose. And let’s hope that she can avoid the hollywood divorce statistics….

  3. I remember reading that Jon Bon Jovi was in awe of his wife taking care of their three kids (at that time). Later on in the story it also said that they had a house staff of 10!

I could do a great job of taking care of my kids with a staff of ten in my house too. I reaspect the women who take care of thier kids on a teacher’s salary.

I’m not being bitter, just being realistic.

    Hi Maggie –

True to a certain extent, but these parents don’t know what they’re missing. Children who never have to help out around the house and who have everything their heart desires as soon as they want it, probably aren’t very happy and might be extremely difficult to live with.

I take y’alls point very, very much (so does my wife). I just thought it was interesting how relatively “traditionally” my generation is behaving, even in Hollywood. It seems to me to be a pattern with GenXers, i.e., “recovering” the sorts of things that got lost in the revolution.

Here’s another albeit quite different sort of story about a tradition-recovering GenX Hollywood celeb: George Clooney.

(OK, he’s more of a “twilighter”–between a boomer and a GenXer–but I’m claiming him because of his pop nostalgia.)

Here’s more on Clooney’s recent projects. Sounds like he’s a liberal after my own heart. Apparently his nostalgia is not so much for popular culture but political culture, i.e., old-style political activism.
