It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a woman in possession of a wealthy husband must be in want of a hobby. So how lucky is Crystal Hefner…

And the best part is, there are lots and lots and lots of volumes to this particular “life scrapbook”:

(Unless, perchance, he gets one of his old airbrush masters to give his Instagram photos a little going-over.) Anyway, Scrapbook Saturdays are a chance for Hef to look back on his remarkable life as the man who created Playboy. For one thing, it afforded him the chance to associate with a great many luminaries. Here are just a few!

So many luminaries! It really makes you wonder about certain prejudiced Roman Catholics, doesn’t it?

Ah, TIP … it seems like Old Times. And to judge from these photos, I guess it is.

  2. Quin Finnegan says

In all seriousness, was Crystal even alive when _any_ of these pictures were taken? Might Hugh have just brought down a scrapbook of speakeasies and floozies for her to browse through? Imagine the two of them settling in for movie night and watching the latest Great Gatsby, and the confusion over music, fashion, and decades that might follow.

    Amazing.

    • Broderick Barker says

I like to imagine her time scrapbooking with Hef as a little like the ending of A Handful of Dust.

  3. Quin Finnegan says

I mean, why not a woman in her fifties? Forties? My guess is that vacuousness must be a big part of the attraction.

  4. Big Jon Bully says

I’m speechless, very sad. Good post.

    • Broderick Barker says

Thanks. Hef is too old now for this to count as any kind of blow against the Playboy philosophy. But it seemed worth noting.

The Playboy Club photo reminds me of a certain ideal of masculine style and sophistication that I associate with the late ’60s and early ’70s. That Sunset magazine/Pan Am Richard Harris singing Macarther Park turtleneck Steven McQueen in Bullet too old to be a hippy but smokes weed at a house in Big Sur divorce your staid wife and leave the Church kind of style.

As Sweeney O.P. once told me, there is no continuity.

    What a bill of goods!

As Quin would say, good times.

  6. Quin Finnegan says

Can someone please clarify whether the silver charms on Crystal’s bikini bottom are skulls, bunnies, wolves, or perhaps some admixture of all these?

The resolution on my screen isn’t high enough.

I can’t see for sure, but think garden of souls harvested on behalf of the devil.
