I think it really was the death of toys – or a sort of twilight of childhood civilization – the day Kenner folded – er – was consumed by the maw known as Hasbro.
Would Pixar ever want to go to the dark side with their Toy Story francise, I can imagine a story line, a sort of Toy Story meets Glengarry Glen Ross – showing the dark underside of the Toy Industry.
(Of course, Don Rickles' Mr. Potato Head would get to do the Alec Baldwin speech!)
