Reading Is Fundamental

Because the mid-range period of my academic life was considered “special,” – that is, I went to a school that valued discussion over lecturing – one of the ground rules was, if you enter the discussion, you best better have bet your sweet academic-in-training ass that you in fact had read beforehand the text being discussed that day in class…

Which leads me to a brief foray into the political – if only for the purpose of pointing up the apparently rife lexiphobia exhibited by the current administration’s cabinet – which of course is only a microcosmic squint at the American populace as a whole…

The current topic is the Arizona Immigration law – but it could be the health care bill – the stimulus bill – you name it.

The problem is, no one reads at all anymore, I guess…

Of course, this could all be avoided if we would just listen to Woody and let the Man do his job….

Or if the Man would let Woody do his.

Or if the Man was in fact Woody – or if you prefer – Δένδριος…

And if we really wanted to boost results, we could avail ourselves of what appears to be an ingenious solution of the Senate’s own jester – a crash course on reading – well on cartoon reading – but we do need to take baby steps as we walk through the new “No Cabinet Member Left Behind” program, the pilot program of which was launched on the Senate floor recently…

Is there any way we could entice the junior senator from Minnysoder to give a Cliff’s Notes lecture on the Az. Law?

…it seems we haven’t moved on as much as the folks at MoveOn.org would have liked…
