We’re All Abortionists Now

Rep. Bart Stupak flipped; the San Francisco Chronicle’s Carolyn Lochhead summed up the consequences pretty well, and now the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is the law of the land.

Just for kicks, here’s a look back at the “Fetus Eater”. But don’t you worry; the guy was a lone freak who couldn’t possibly have been influenced by the surrounding culture. Abortion is not infanticide, and infanticide isn’t cannibalism, and most cannibals would balk at eating embryos. And yet …

How many unaborted babies have you adopted?

How many criminals have you arrested? How many cancer patients have you cured?

More seriously, the point is that using tax money for abortion crosses a big moral line. The kind of line which led people in another time and place to take up arms.

Of course, that could never happen here. Government is reality, progressives are smart and there really is a place called Candy Island with rivers of chocolate and beaches of pixie dust.

I have a problem with the labels "Pro-life
Democrat" and "Moderate Democrat". They always find the votes and votes are traded for political reasons. It is the political home for collectivists, abortionists and eugenicists. And these philosophies go together because they treat the human person as an abstraction.

For the record, zero. I haven't adopted any unaborted babies.

But that's not the point. Your people won that argument, and anybody who wants an abortion can have an abortion, and have somebody else pay for it because we all pay for it. You won that debate, and yet you still want to have that debate.

I don't want to argue about abortion any more. I want to talk about the crunchy goodness that is embryonic human flesh stirred into your chili for lunch – chili con carne, for real. At which point you say, "that's beside the point, and tasteless!". To which point I reply, "To the contrary, I hear it's a lot like pork, with the texture of soft shell crab."

Cannibalism out of necessity is one thing. Cannibalism out of crunchy goodness crosses a big moral line for me.

And you can take that to the bank for a little while.

    Okay, I'm mulling that over.

If I were a Republican in the House of Representatives, I would have been tempted to vote "Yea" – thus allowing the act to be called "bipartisan" – provided that the president sign an executive order that PACA strictly forbids eating fetuses, or any federal funding for doctors who eat fetuses.

If he actually signed such an order, it would be widely regarded as ridiculous: "of course eating fetuses is wrong; is our nation so morally bankrupt that we actually have to write this into a law that provides universal health care?"

If he refused to sign the order, Republicans could play the best game of "Gotcha!" ever: "Democrats can't even say that eating fetuses is wrong!" Imagine Hannity pummeling Stupak or Kaptur: "Are you prepared, right here and right now, to state for the American people that eating fetuses is wrong?

We are in dire need of moral boundaries. After years of crossing one line in the sand after another, we may as well work within an ethical framework we can all agree on.

  7. Jonathan Webb says

So it is agreed. Eating fetuses while marrying your same sex sibling is transcendently wrong.
