Lights Out?

Blogger just announced that they will no longer be supporting blogs that publish via FTP come March 26. Guess Godsbody can start making the necessary arrangements.

Comments

  1. What if the blog in question publishes via plain old Regular Toliet Paper (RTP) – instead of the Fancy variety?

    Just wonderin…

You had the ability to post via ftp? wow. That's old school.

What do they want you to do?

Are you going to finally hang it up?

This whole damn site is old school. Nary a redesign in five years. Sad, really. I guess they're going to design some kind of transfer tool? But I kinda doubt it'll, um, interface with my current setup or whatever. This thing barely works as it is.
I should probably hang it up. If you've been blogging five years and you ain't getting paid, UR DOIN IT RONG.

How about putting out a xeroxed weekly newsletter?

  5. Rufus,

    Ouch.

That makes my TP comment downright flattering…

    JOB

I dunno, I've done the paid blogging gig and it sucked the joy right out. Plus there was the fun of arguing with my employers over the Gardasil ads in the sidebar. (I lost the argument and quit the job.)

What are you migrating to? WordPress? I'm happyish with my host (Swank). Or there's free WordPress.

Don't hang it up. Petersons will gently weep.

(But DO get a functioning RSS feed, dadgummit.)

Was it over when the Germans bombed Perl Harbor?

    Hell no!

I can see it on the horizon. A springtime of something or other coming, and the new Godsbody leading the way.

  8. Dorian Speed says

Wait, I still don't even know what FTP *means*, and you're telling me it's outdated? And has it really been that long since your fancy website debuted? Since I photocopied your book and passed it out to my eager…ish students?

    Wow.

  9. Matthew Lickona says

Eagerish. The unkindest cut of all. Yeah, this thing is five years old, though it feels and looks like fifty. I don't know what FTP means, either.
