    My first year in college I roomed with a guy from a neighborhood in the north suburbs that was home to many a Hughes movie scene. It was 1989. He and his cohorts fit the Hughes caricatures down to the Jon Cryer hats . I would lay on my top bunk reading on Saturdays while they sat around the dorm room, listening to New Order, and striking thoughtful poses.

    Sometimes I laughed at them.

    Yeah, that was pretty amazing. Amazing too that he left the top of the mountain for fear of what it might do to his children.
