John Hughes is Dead.

So passes the Director of My Adolescence. Terrifying coda: how long before some studio suit gets the bright idea for a reunion piece: The Breakfast Club II: The Brunch Club. You know, where they’re all back for their 20th high school reunion, and now, the principal is the chief of police…

I like the idea of a sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

My first year in college I roomed with a guy from a neighborhood in the north suburbs that was home to many a Hughes movie scene. It was 1989. He and his cohorts fit the Hughes caricatures down to the Jon Cryer hats . I would lay on my top bunk reading on Saturdays while they sat around the dorm room, listening to New Order, and striking thoughtful poses.

    Sometimes I laughed at them.

Yeah, that was pretty amazing. Amazing too that he left the top of the mountain for fear of what it might do to his children.

    Somebody stop me.

The principal would be 70 years old by now.

Not a bit. He's gradually risen through the town's ranks, thanks to cronyism of the worst kind, until now he's running the city the same way he ran the school, and he won't step down, no sir…
