The ladies of Jezebel inquire as to the motivation behind the graffiti on the above ad: misogyny or social commentary? As the man said in Spinal Tap, “What’s wrong with being sexy?” “Sex-ist!”

A nod to Kierkegaard and Walker Percy: existentialist tomfoolery, political satire, literary homage, word mongering, a year-round summer reading club, Dylanesque music bits, apocalyptic marianism, poetry, fiction, meta-porn, a prisoner work-release program.

Matthew,
How do we know the graffiti is not PART of the ad?
JOB
I must confess that it took me a bit, what with the arse, and then the green streaks…
Jeze’s readers really don’t get it, so I’ll not make the attempt over there:
The graffitist is dead on, but not in the Talibanesque way western liberals think. When you make an object out of a person, yes, a person gets raped.
“Concupiscence” (sing to Rod Stewart tune “Infatuation”)
Late in the morning sleep too much
Food and drink can be a crutch
Been drunk all day, can’t concentrate
Adam & Eve made a big mistake
Caught me down like a killer shark
Like a railroad running right through my heart
Jekyll and Hyde the way I ‘have
Feel like I’m running on an empty gauge
Oh no, not again
It hurts so good
I don’t understand
Concupisceee-eence
Concupisceee-eence
Concupisceee-eence
Concupisceee-eence
Heart beats silly like a big bass drum
Losing all equilibrium
It’s so hard in the middle of the week
“The insubordination of man’s desires to the dictates of reason” is the last thing I need
Oh no not again
It hurts so good
I don’t understand
Concupisceee-eence…
