Saints Alive

Ironic Catholic memed us some time ago. Not sure if my co-bloggers noticed, so I’ll pick up the slack and take a stab at it.

“Those tagged for this meme will list their four favorite saints, their one favorite blessed, and one person they think should have been a saint.”

Favorite Saints:

1. St. Scholastica, on whose feast day I was born. I like how she prayed and a storm came which waylaid brother Benedict so she could hang out with him a little while longer.

2. St. Benedict. The Rule rules!

3. St. Jerome. Saint of librarians; I’m a librarian; Q.E.D. A sharp, sharp-edged fellow, but soft on the inside. A pet lion!

4. St. Augustine. The stories he recounts in his Confessions seem like they could have happened yesterday.

Favorite Blessed:
I had to look up what it means to be a “Blessed”, i.e. beatified. According to I.C., Julian of Norwich is Blessed Julian. Good enough for me. “All shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.” Yes.

Who should be canonized:
John Paul II is a given, so I’ll say Flannery O’Connor.

Lessee: I hereby tag Theocoid. He ought to have some saints up his sleeve, or in his phylactery, or someplace.

    Good list.

Flannery, hmm? Has the Church canonized novelists before?

That’s actually an interesting thought….can novels/poetry/other fiction merit one as a confessor of the faith?
