Our Lady of Las Vegas

…is where my Goddaughter was baptized. Fascinating church, combining as it does elements from so many different styles (not that I’m any sort of expert). Fra Angelico. A style I have come to think of as classic ’50s American Catholic. Celtic? Iconography. Mission (the ceiling). Art Deco. ’70s stained-glass (post Vatican II trippy color panels, but still holding onto tradition a little bit with the faces). More iconography, this time with a more Russian tinge? Gothic (the lamps) and Roman (the pillars).

This is where I went when I was in Vegas in February…

I’d describe the architecture as “Dr. Who enters a Benedictine Monestary.” It’s a long walk from the Ventian, by the way.

Outstanding. By the way, Stormtrooper-boy, when are you heading out west to SoCal?

    Don’t tempt me.

Short answer: I may never get back to SoCal.

The spousal unit was out in SoCal (very briefly) for her reunion. I could not go because my brother was in town, and someone has to watch our kids. We’ve already booked a week in August up in Skan-town. Bambino El Numero Quatro is due in November, which has further depleted vacation time and funding.

My trip to Vegas was work-related. And it ended up being more work than fun, ironically enough. I can’t find any reason for them to send me to California, though.

Nevertheless, San Diego remains in the “Top Five US vacation destinations” at the Not-Ted Center of Operations.

    So we shall see.

    Here’s hoping….
