Awhile back our friend Quintilian turned us on to the 1955 Danish cinematic marvel, Ordet, directed by Carl Th. Dreyer. Imagine my surprise the other night when my lovely, maimed wife and I were watching an old episode of Northern Exposure and Ordet turned up in a scene in which Ed and “Grandma Woody” were watching it in the little theater in the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska. The comments Ed and Woody make, however, seem to refer to Ingmar Bergman’s masterpiece, The Seventh Seal. Wacky!
