How Many Roads

In 2001 the people of Pecos County, Texas, passed an ordinance dictating that radio stations located in the county would henceforth be restricted to transmitting news, weather, and cover versions of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind.” Here is a sample field recording I made while fiddling with the radio dial in my room at the Howard Johnson’s just off Hwy 18 in Fort Stockton at 2am on August 21, 2001. A few days later, the ordinance was struck down by the Texas State Supreme Court.
