Life Raft

Time is a river flowing towards an unknown city. Life is a raft en route. Schedules, appointments, tasks, events, alarms, emergencies, catastrophes, explosions, acts of love and violence trouble the water. Work and money, stress and sweat –we paddle madly when we feel we must, or hang on for dear life. And then relax a moment and catch a glimpse of fields where eternity lies fallow, mountains where chronologies have been compressed in God’s fists, and time stands still.

“I’ve seen the ten year flood and I’ve seen the twenty year flood. If you build your house high enough you can withstand both, but, first you need to lay a good foundation. I measure time by floods. How many survived and how many more left to go. Will I see a grandchild by the time of the next flood? Will The Good Lord return? Neither are for me to say. All I know is no goddamn eco-terrorist is going to steal my land.”
